Phra Thaen Banthom Phloeng (wood litter for lying by the fire after giving birth)

“When women give birth, they have to adopt post-partum practice by lying on a wood litter in front of a fire pit. During the practice, overseers will take care of the heat. Length of the practice time depends on participants’ availability. Mostly, it lasts 1 to 4 weeks (the number of days must be odd) though it’s believed that the longer they stay, the better. The practice will make their skin healthier. Normally, if the participants are young and just have their first child, they will stay for a long time.”
